Cango Bus Service

Cango Bus Service Logo

The Cango bus service travels between Alton, Basingstoke and Alresford and serves the rural communities in between.

It was introduced by Hampshire County Council in August 2004 and has dramatically improved public transport to and from the parish.

What is it?

It is a bus service that can respond to your needs – the route is not fixed and the bus can travel to wherever it is needed within the above area.

Who can use it?

All Cango bus services are available to any member of the public in the operating area. Cango buses are low to the floor and wheelchair accessible. Those with mobility impairments can be picked up from their door. The drivers have been trained to help passengers with special needs.

Where will it pick me up?

You can get on the bus at either a “timed” or a “bookable” stop. A timed stop is where a Cango will definitely stop on each journey. You can get on a bookable stop if you have booked your journey in advance. If there isn’t a stopping point near you, Cango will arrange for you to have your own stopping point. This could be any agreed location in the operating zone.

How can I make a booking?

Simply phone 0845 6024135. Registration is free, and once you have registered you can book online at http://cango.hants.gov.uk or by phone. A user pack is sent to you after registration and you will be kept up to date about developments.

The Cango call centre is open between 8.00am and 6.00 pm Monday to Friday, and 8.00am to 4.30 pm on Saturday.

Bookings can also be made after the bus has set off, using special technology that links the Cango buses with the call centre.

When, where, and how much?

Up to date information on fares and routes can be found on the Cango website http://cango.hants.gov.uk or by phoning the call centre on 0845 6024135

Refuse and Recycling

Picture of cansRefuse collections take place in the parish on Fridays, apart from parts of Axford where the collection takes place on Wednesdays.

For any queries about your refuse collection, contact 01256 845474.

Rolls of recycling bags are provided by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council twice a year. A small stock of these bags is held by the parish council if you should run out in between. Please contact the clerk to obtain further supplies.

There are glass recycling facilities to the left of the village hall, and the Purefoy Arms has kindly suggested that their recycling bins can also be used by residents.
